1.7. Our Core Frameworks
In this video, we discuss the difference between strategies and tactics. Learning to think about long-term strategies for creating a healthy life is essential before getting too caught up in specific tactics. Tactics are always changing, but strategies endure time and are adaptable. We will review the major sources of strategic insight that inform our understanding of how to improve your health: (1) the study of human centenarians, (2) non-human studies of longevity, (3) studies of human disease states (dysfunction is often required to understand function), (4) mechanistic molecular biological insights, and (5) genetic studies, most notably Mendelian randomization. Using this information, we can start to address the Four Horsemen of Longevity™: atherosclerosis leading to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, cancer, neurodegenerative disease, and metabolic disease.
