3.6.1. ACTIVITY
Build Your Longevity Risk Assessment™
This exercise is meant to provide a vision of what you want so you have the motivation to do the work. The end result can be incredibly powerful and can help people remember why they make the sacrifices they do.
LONGEVITY RISK ASSESSMENT INTRODUCTION
After completing this module’s content, you should be well-positioned to begin to fill in your own Longevity Risk Assessment. This is an iterative process you’ll want to continue to update in the years to come.
For now, our goal is to begin to further refine your story: Where are your icebergs?
RESOURCES
To begin, download and print the Longevity Risk Assessment below.
Instructions
STEP 1
Using the data from previous modules, make your best effort to order the following items, weighting them according to likelihood, and severity, with the largest threat at the top of the chart and the smallest threat at the bottom. I’ve included my own examples to help illustrate the steps.
LIFESPAN
-
Cardiovascular disease
-
Neurodegenerative disease
-
Cancer
-
Accidental death (most notably—accidental overdose, automobile accidents, and falls)
HEALTHSPAN
-
Physical decline (Orthopedic)
-
Cognitive decline
-
Threats to emotional health
-
Specific individual risks (pre-existing conditions, such as liver disease and kidney disease)
-

STEP 2
Complete your LRA by filling in the severity of impact on lifespan and healthspan for each risk, and add in any relevant comments that may offer more context to your LRA.
Use the key below to help determine severity of impact.

As a reminder, perfection is not your goal here (“Should this be three +’s or just two?” or “Should this risk be #3 on the list or #4?”). We are not trying to turn you into a diagnostician. Rather, this is a tool to help you develop an intuition for where the greatest risks to achieving your longevity goals are lurking. Ultimately, we do this to help you prioritize and focus your tactical interventions. We must ensure there are no blind spots.

STEP 3
Reflecting on the LRA you just filled out, write down your Longevity Narrative. The purpose here is to explain how you get up every day and think about prioritizing your time, energy, and resources against each of the items below which can impact your longevity—both lifespan and healthspan. Start from the items lowest on the list and move to the top.

How can you use this template as a tool moving forward?
You’ve unlocked an essential part of your longevity. Your LRA is a fluid exercise, and should be updated as new information, new treatments, and de-risking is done through lifestyle factors. Keep this document on hand as we next talk about using tactics to manage these risks to achieve your goals.
