4.1. The Third Horseman: Neurodegenerative Disease

As with cardiovascular disease and cancer, we will begin by looking deeper into the third of the Four Horsemen of Longevity™ – neurodegenerative diseases (especially Alzheimer’s disease) – from a biological perspective. We will walk through common risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease, including known genetic risk factors. There are fates worse than death, and for many, losing the most important parts of yourself is one of them.

 

Note that although we occasionally refer to this horseman by its most common variant – Alzheimer’s disease – it should properly be understood to include all types of neurodegenerative disease and dementias. Alzheimer’s disease happens to be the most common form of each.
