12.5. Case Study: Menopausal HRT

As covered in the previous video, men’s testosterone levels tend to decline over time as they age. Hormone levels in women decline as well, but it is a much more precipitous and rapid drop. This is the life event called menopause that every woman experiences. As with everything we have talked about in Early, aging is inevitable, but there are many things you can do to slow the process and cushion the decline. Menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can play a significant role in alleviating symptoms, improving quality of life, and optimizing health for many perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Here we explain for whom HRT might be helpful, how HRT works, and the risks and benefits.
